There are four types to extinguish fire.
Smothering, Cooling, Starving, and chain breaking
Fire generally occurs by three substances, we called as Fire Triangle. For any triangle if we cut one side, it won’t be last.
By removing any one side we can extinguish fire.
Smothering: Removal of fuel by cutting fuel supply
Starving: Removal of oxygen
Cooling: Removal of heat
There is other method, in which by cutting down the molecular chain reaction we can extinguish the fire also.
By using firefighting system (Hydrant pump or sprinkler pump) we are equipped with cooling method to extinguish the fire, which is more reliable and convenient method.
